1997 The year it came true!

Feburary 11, 1997 Almost a year has gone by since we started this process. Now we have gone thru Christmas and most of the winter and no referral yet. Things are moving along, but it looks like it will be Spring before we get a referral. People ahead of us are just getting referrals from dossiers submitted to China in July & August. It also appears that we will not get twins or siblings (but a miracle is always possible) due to China's enforcing of previous policies. We just have to wait and see what the good LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST decides is right for us.

July 17, 1997 Boy was I ever wrong with thinking we would get a referral in the spring. Today at about 4:15pm, John Harrarh of Harrah's Family Services called with the referral for Su Ying, soon to be Tia Lin Su Ying McLean. She was born 3/17/96 and is in an orphanage in Chengdu, Szechuan Province, China. Picture and more details to follow next week.

July 21, 1997 We got the above picture, via email from John Harrah.

July 22, 1997 Our arrived with the original picture that John had scanned, enlarged, and emailed to us. It is 1X1.5 inches. We also received a copy of Su Ying's medical examination from Chengdu Eighth People's Hospital. We had already been told that she weighed 8.5kgs and was 74cm long when this was done in March of 1997. The rest of the infromation is in Chinese and we have to wait to get it intrepretted.

July 28, 1997 We received email from our agency's contact in China, with his best estimate of travel. We should plan to be in Beijing Aug 21, if we desire to tour Beijing with him, for 2 days, then go to Chengdu (see detailed intinerary below).

August 1, 1997 We are told to go ahead and plan our travel around the previous schedule. We will travel to Beijing, tour and then travel to Chengdu to meet a mother/daughter team that are both adopting from China. They will be adopting from Xian and Chengdu, and will already have one child with them when we meet in Chengdu.

CAugust 4, 1997 Thanks to the assistance of Barbara Hue Ye of AMCAN Travel, we have our flights booked. We will spend a night in Los Angeles, on the way back so that Bill's parents, who live in Prescott, AZ can meet their new granddaughter.
